Vi är ständigt på jakt efter nya bra podcasts och vårt senaste fynd är Miette’s Bedtime Story Podcast. Den har ett gigantiskt arkiv, som sträcker sig åtskilliga år tillbaka, med inläsningar av noveller. Det är ett bibliotek för finsmakare, en hel del udda saker som faller utanför realismens ramar.
Vi skrev till Miette, som egentligen heter något annat, och ställde den inte helt originella frågan hur det hela började: ”I began nine years ago, as a joke. My best friend and I were in love with people who didn’t love us back, so we’d phone one another late at night when we couldn’t sleep. We got sick of complaining about our pathetic lack of love, and starting reading short stories to one another instead. Then, my friend got a girlfriend, so I started posting the stories on the internet, for him to listen to when he had time. And we went from there.”
Eftersom vi blev imponerade av Miettes urval av noveller och berättelser undrade vi förutsägbart nog även hur urvalsprocessen går till: ”I select stories based on what I’m reading, or thinking about, at any given moment. Sometimes, people send me recommendations, which I love. I try to strike a balance between stories that people are likely to need to hear (those studied in the classroom) and stories no one knows about. My own tastes are the experimental, the foreign, and the obscure.”
Vi bad även Miette att välja sina fem favoriter ur det egna arkivet åt oss, vilket hon hade den stora vänligheten att göra. Det känns väldigt speciellt att få presentera de fem favoriterna, som onekligen är av det mer äventyrliga slaget:

Miette’s uppläsningar är som kärleksförklaringar till den litteratur hon älskar, många upplever dem som kraftigt vanebildande.
