När Covid lamslog världen, började det snart växa fram motståndsstrategier. Att läsa framstod som något av det vettigare man kunde göra. På nätet kunde man snart läsa massvis med listor med förslag på böcker att läsa under pandemin, Camus Pesten och Boccacios Decamerone var självskrivna på de här listorna. Författaren Yiyun Li sjösatte ett både mer anspråksfullt och mer kollektivt projekt: Tolstoy Together. Projektet var som en virtuell bokklubb som sedan gavs ut i bokform.
