Det var inte länge sedan vi samlade listor med förra årets bästa böcker: Årets bästa böcker 2014, lista med listor Och: De bästa engelskspråkiga böckerna 2014, lista med listor.
Och Benn Ray på Atomic Books hade vänligheten att göra en åt oss: De 20 bästa serieromanerna 2014, enligt Benn Ray på Atomic Books.
Och så gjorde vi två listor med bokomslag som vi tyckte särskilt mycket om: Årets 30 bästa bokomslag 2014 och Några snygga och intressanta svenska bokomslag 2014.

Dessutom har vi nyligen gjort två listor med de svenska vårböckerna: Våren 2015 – 15 skönlitterära böcker att hålla koll på och Våren 2015 – 15 fackböcker att hålla koll på.
Och som om det inte vore nog, så är det nu dags för listorna med de mest emotsedda engelskspråkiga böckerna 2015, med tonvikt på första halvan av året. Vi lägger upp några av de listor vi tycker är intressanta och från några av dem lyfter vi sedan, längre ned på sidan, fram några av våra favoritböcker.

Miranda Julys debutroman The First Bad Man (Canongate) är självskriven på många listor. Det enda man kan säga med säkerhet är att det inte är en konventionell roman och relationer och sex. Paul Beattys The Sellout (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) Skriver Flavorwire: ”This novel about ‘a young man’s isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court’ may end up being the smartest, funniest, and most important novel of 2015. From what I’m hearing, it’s clearly a contender for a novel of the year.” (mars)
En ny roman av Toni Morrison, God Help the Child, (Knopf) är naturligtvis en stort händelse i sig. En av årets mest motsedda romaner tillsammans med Jonathan Franzens nya. (april)
Nell Zink kommer ut med sin andra roman, Mislaid (Ecco), skrev en av förra årets mest spännande debutböcker, The Wallcreeper, Flavorwire tycker att det var den bästa debutromanen 2014 och en av de bästa amerikanska romanerna, rätt och slätt. ”But it felt rushed, almost hurried, mostly in a blissful, exhilarating way, but also in the manner of a first novel. As if by magic, her follow-up is already here, and it suggests a writer who has long been at work on her fiction. The novel sounds epic, and it promises to lay bare ‘all of our assumptions about race and racism, sexuality and desire.'” (maj)
The Making of Zombie Wars (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) är Aleksandar Hemons första roman sedan The Lazarus Project, som för sju år sedan tävlade om att vinna ett National Book Award. Skriver Flavorwire: ”Frankly this novel about an amateur screenwriter sounds weird and perhaps not at all good, but in the hands of Hemon, one of our best writers, it could be excellent.” (maj)

Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America (Spiegel & Grau) av Jill Leovy utgår från ett statistiskt faktum – för varje vit kvinna som mördades i Los Angeles 2007 mördades 100 svarta män, trots att svarta bara utgör ungefär en procent av stadens befolkning. Det är utgångspunkten i boken som utforskar den epidemi av mord som drabbar svarta män över hela Amerika. (januari)
The Brothers: The Road to an American Tragedy (Riverhead) av Masha Gessen är en reportage- och essäbok som försöker förstå gärningsmännen, bröderna som utförde terrordådet under Boston Marathon 2013. Den verkar mycket ambitiöst upplagd, den rysk-amerikanska journalisten Gessen har rest till Kirgizistan, Dagestan och Tjetjenien för att utforska deras bakgrund och historia. (April)
Och så kommer Patti Smith ut med uppföljaren till Just Kids, hennes memoarer om livet tillsammans med Robert Mapplethorpe i New York på 70-talet. M Train (Knopf) kommer ut i september.

Breezeway (Ecco) av John Ashbery kommer ut i maj. Flavorwire: ”Ashbery is arguably our greatest living poet. And here we have a new collection. What more do you need to know?”
Turning into Dwelling (Graywolf) av Christopher Gilbert kommer ut i juli. Flavorwire: ”Christopher Gilbert, who passed away in 2007, was little known by casual readers of American literature, but his 1984 Across the Mutual Landscape is a beloved work for many poets and committed readers of American poetry. In July, Graywolf will release this collection of Gilbert’s work, and I suspect that his reassessment will lead to a substantially larger following.”

Med på den här listan finns helt väntat Toni Morrison och Jonathan Franzen och, nästan lika väntat, Kazuo Ishiguro. Hans roman The Buried Giant (Knopf) kommer ut i mars. Skriver Ron Charles: ”Few details are available, but this Japanese-born British writer has been shortlisted four times for the Booker Prize, which he won in 1989 for The Remains of the Day. Expect something fascinating.”

Landmarks (Hamish Hamilton) av Robert Macfarlane kommer ut i mars. Ur förlagsreklamen: ”Landmarks is about the power of language to shape our sense of place. It is a field guide to the literature of nature, and a glossary containing thousands of remarkable words used in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales to describe land, nature and weather.”
Reading the World: Confessions of a Literary Explorer (Harvill Secker) av Ann Morgan kommer ut i februari. Den så kallade bibliomemoaren, som har sina anhängare och motståndare, verkar bli vanligare och vanligare. Den här handlar om hur Ann Morgan försöker läsa en bok från varje land i världen.

Intelligent Sentient? (Drawn & Quarterly) av Luke Ramsey kommer ut i februari och verkar vara något utöver det vanliga. Enligt förlaget är boken ”a loosely-told narrative of existential crisis with delicate, complex drawings – it’s like an artifact from another time.” De skriver också: ”The drawings contain the fine detail of a watchmaker and the visual scope of a social reform muralist. Glow (Knopf) av Ned Beauman är, om jag förstår saken rätt, redan utgiven i Storbritannien, men den här konspirationsthrillern förtjänar ett omnämnande. Den har fått lysande kritik och William Gibson hade den som en av sina absoluta favoriter förra året.
Hall of Small Mammals (Riverhead) av Thomas Pierce har kommit ut. The Millions beskrivning: ”Pierce’s stories are reminiscent of the work of Laura van den Berg: his fiction exists in a space that’s just slightly offset from reality, not quite surrealism but not quite realism either. A woman admits to her boyfriend that she’s married to another man, but only in her dreams; in dreams she and her husband live out an ordinary domestic life. A man who works for a sinister television show that clones extinct animals delivers a miniature woolly mammoth to his mother. Pierce’s stories are beautifully written and suffused with mystery.” (Emily)
Lucky Alan: And Other Stories (Doubleday) av Jonathan Lethem kommer ut i februari. The Millions beskrivning: ”From forgotten comic book characters stuck on a desert island to a father having his midlife crisis at SeaWorld, the nine stories in this collection explore everything from the quotidian to the absurd, all with Lethem’s signature humor, nuance, and pathos.” (Tess)
Find Me (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) av Laura van den Berg kommer ut i februari. Det här är Bergs debutroman och av förlagsreklamen att döma är det en udda postapokalyptisk historia. En egendomlig demenssjukdom sveper fram över Amerika, men romanens huvudperson, Joy, är immun. Hon ger sig iväg på en resa ”from Kansas to Florida, where she believes she can find her birth mother, the woman who abandoned her as a child. On the road in a devastated America, she encounters mysterious companions, cities turned strange, and one very eerie house. As Joy closes in on Florida, she must confront her own damaged memory and the secrets she has been keeping from herself.”
Get In Trouble (Random House) av Kelly Link kommer ut i februari. Förlagets beskrivning: ”She has been hailed by Michael Chabon as ‘the most darkly playful voice in American fiction’ and by Neil Gaiman as ‘a national treasure.’ Now Kelly Link’s eagerly awaited new collection—her first for adult readers in a decade—proves indelibly that this bewitchingly original writer is among the finest we have.”
The Strange Case of Rachel K (New Directions) av Rachel Kushner kommer ut i februari. Boken utgörs av tre berättelser Kushner skrev innan hon skrev sina två stora romaner. Förlagets beskrivning: ”An explorer’s unknown whereabouts keep a queen in anticipation; a faith healer’s illegal radio broadcasts give hope to an oppressed people; a president’s offer of ice cream surprises a prostitute expecting to turn a trick—the three short fictions gathered in The Strange Case of Rachel K build into a vision that is black-humored, brutal, and beautiful.”
There’s Something I Want You to Do (Pantheon) av Charles Baxter kommer ut i februari. Samlingen består av 10 noveller, fem handlar om dygder, fem handlar om laster. Förlagets beskrivning: ”From one of the great masters of the contemporary short story, here is an astonishing collection that showcases Charles Baxter’s unique ability to unveil the remarkable in the seemingly inconsequential moments of an eerie yet familiar life.”
My Documents (McSweeney’s) av Alejandro Zambra kommer ut i februari. Skriver Garth Risk Hallberg på The Millions: ”‘Camilo’ was both the first thing I’d read by this young Chilean writer and one of the two or three best stories to run in The New Yorker last year. It appears alongside 10 other pieces in this collection, Zambra’s first book with McSweeney’s.”
Voices in the Night (Knopf) av Steven Millhauser kommer ut i april. Av alla böcker som kommer ut i vår är det här en av dem jag allra helst vill läsa. Novellspecialisten Millhauser är som en blandning av en samvetsgrann hantverkare, en mästare, och en magiker med en fritt flödande fantasi. Förlagets beskrivning: ”Heightened by magic, the divine, and the uncanny, shot through with sly humor,Voices in the Night seamlessly combines the whimsy and surprise of the familiar with intoxicating fantasies that take us beyond our daily lives, all done with the hallmark sleight of hand and astonishing virtuosity of one of our greatest modern storytellers.”

Muse (Knopf) av Jonathan Galassi kommer ut i juni. Romaner om förlagsbranschen är svåra att motstå. Förlagets beskrivning: ”A sparkling fiction debut from the poet, translator, and FSG publisher that tells the story of the decades-long rivalry between two publishing lions over the work of an iconic female poet.”
Music for Wartime (Viking) av Rebecca Makkai kommer ut i juli. Det här är Makkais första novellsamling, men hon är verkligen inte obekant med formen. Förlagets beskrivning: ”Makkai has been anthologized four times in The Best American Short Stories as well as The Best American Nonrequired Reading. These wide-ranging and deeply moving stories—some inspired by her family history—will delight her many fans, as well as readers of Lorrie Moore, Jim Shepard, and Karen Russell.”
The State We’re In (Scribner) av Ann Beattie kommer ut i augusti. Det är inte utan anledning Beattie har kallats Amerikas Alice Munro. Förlagets beskrivning: ”Riveting, witty, sly, idiosyncratic, and bold, these stories describe a state of mind, a manner of being—now. A Beattie story, says Margaret Atwood, is ‘like a fresh bulletin from the front: we snatch it up, eager to know what’s happening out there on the edge of that shifting and dubious no-man’s-land known as interpersonal relations.’ The State We’re In is a fearless exploration of contemporary life by a brilliant writer whose fiction startles as it illuminates.”
Det blev sammanlagt 26 böcker och en ganska jämn fördelning mellan romaner och novellsamlingar. Och det här är alltså bara böcker hämtade ur utgivningen under första halvåret, om man undantar Jonathan Franzens roman, som kommer ut först i september.
